Dr Anna Lawes
Clinical Psychologist
Hi, I’m Anna.
I’m an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist and BABCP accredited practitioner with experience working across a range of mental health difficulties in both the NHS and private sector.
I draw on various psychological models, including cognitive behaviour therapy, compassion focused therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy to inform my practice. I specialise in eating disorders, emotion regulation, trauma and maternal mental health (from pre-conception to postpartum). I believe that therapy is a highly individual process, best approached through building a shared understanding, or formulation, of a person’s current situation.
I understand that starting therapy can be daunting and is a big commitment so please feel free to get in touch for a free 15-minute chat to see if we might be a good fit. I am happy to answer any questions that you might have.

Individual therapy
I believe in creating a warm and safe environment to enable open and honest discussion in order to facilitate change. As a clinical psychologist I draw on a range of evidence-based models to best support each person that I work with. I am also an accredited CBT therapist and have completed further training in dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and compassion focused therapy (CFT).
What is therapy like?
I understand that accessing therapy can feel daunting and am happy to arrange a brief chat to answer any questions before working together. During therapy we will work together to develop a shared understanding of your current problem and what the best approach will be to help you move forward in a way that is meaningful and helpful to you. This will look different for everyone, it may involve learning new coping skills, developing a better understanding of yourself and your own thoughts, emotions and patterns of behaviour, or processing significant events that have happened in the past. Therapy is very much guided by you and your personal goals.
I usually see people either weekly or fortnightly and sessions are 50 minutes. I work both remotely via Zoom or in person.
